The Natural Repository Of Intelligence - Women

Ms. Vimla Patil

Though women are generally described as 'emotional' they have an elusive quality of quiet intelligence, which is significantly called 'medha' in Indian culture. Many poets have likened women's minds to the ocean. The upper layers of their minds, like those of the ocean, have turbulent waves. But the depths are serene and meditative. Women's minds are essentially steadfast and strong. This truth is acknowledged by the Bhagvad Geeta wherein Lord Krishna describes his manifestation in the feminine quality of medha or higher intelligence!

In the present age, women have proved their capabilities in almost every field of activity - be it business development and entrepreneurship, professional excellence, social upliftment in health and education, environmental conservation, self development and empowerment of family or family management. There can be no doubt that women have used their super intelligence and education for remarkable progress on all three levels - personal, social and national.

With the concepts of globalization and a knowledge-based society spreading like wildfire in the world today, women will face newer challenges in the future! They will have to face more stringent forms of competition. They will have to hone and polish their existing skills of wealth creation and time management to deal with the challenges of the 21st century. They will have to devote more and more time to acquiring new skills and knowledge, which now run the wheels of business and industry in the world.

Considering that the workload of women shows no signs of diminishing, women will have to innovate ways of dealing with their marriages, careers and motherhood more efficiently. They will have to work hard to build future societies, which are firmly rooted in the eternal human values of peace, non-violence and co-existence. This is not going to be an easy task because whatever one does, the day contains only so many hours and the human body, mind and intelligence have limitation. Fortunately, women all over the world- and especially in India - have discovered the concept of 'stretchable energy'. They now know that doing work with passion and love does not cause tiredness or exhaustion. If one's health - both physical and mental - is in good shape, work, per se, is not tiring so long as it is not boring and tedious. It is therefore necessary for all women to create for themselves an intelligent and healthy work and leisure lifestyle, which is creative and productive, so that they contribute their best to families, society and country.

In this endeavour, an axiom, which helps women substantially, is: Intelligence plus experience is equal to wisdom. In this age where technological changes turn our lives around every day; where ambitions and aspirations hurtle us along the path of life; where the future seems more and more unpredictable, it is extremely useful to sift through our common experiences and conserve those that teach us useful lessons for the future. These lessons, combined with our sharpened intelligence, can give us a collective pool of sturdy wisdom, from which we can draw inspiration in the years to come. Women are often referred to as the harbingers of future societies. If this is true, women's intelligence, intuition and innate wisdom, used in the correct way, are sure to make our nation prosperous, peaceful and powerful in the coming decades !
