quality happen !
The award has been named after Dr. J M Juran, the man who
taught Japan how to manage for quality, is a visionary and
has pioneered seminal contributions in the field of Quality
Management worldwide. Considered one of the living gurus of
quality, he has agreed to lend his name to quality awards
for individuals in India.
Dr. J M Juran, Founder & Chairman Emeritus of Juran Institute,
has made a far-reaching impact, in getting quality implemented.
In recognition of this, Emperor Hirohito and President George
Bush have conferred Awards on him.
The Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award Trust has accordingly
marked out an additional category entitled IMC Juran Quality
Medal. This medal is presented annually to an individual who
has contributed to enhancing the quality image of India.
The selected individual will serve as a role model for any
combination among the following ten criteria :
- Demonstration of outstanding leadership in establishing
customer-driven quality.
- Demonstration of outstanding leadership in combining statistical
thinking and management which results in high quality of
products and services.
- Demonstration of outstanding leadership in improving the
supplier aspects of quality.
- Demonstration of outstanding leadership in improving the
human aspects of quality.
- Evidence of effective quality management training and/or
consulting in the manufacturing, service and small-scale
sectors.
- Evidence of successful design, development and marketing
of quality management publications, books and instruction
systems.
- Evidence of susbstantial original research on the processes,
tools and techniques for quality managment.
- Evidence of substantial original quality management research
that has social significance.
- Evidence of furtherance of quality awareness through articles,
conventions and other means.
- Evidence of distinct philanthrophy dedicated to the promotion
of quality management.
The process of evaluation involves inviting three external
judges, one of whom would be the chairman. The Award Sub-Committee
would short-list nominations on the basis of the criteria
and with detailed bio-data place in a comparative format before
the Judges. The Award would be announced, the winner would
be informed and a citation and a medal would be conferred.
