Why Canada ?

  • Canada and India have much in common with well over one million people of Indian descent calling Canada their home
  • Canada has a strong and growing economy; is part of a free trade area of more than 450 million people; has an internationally competitive tax and fiscal regime
  • Canada’s bilateral trade with India is small-less than 0.5% of Canadian exports are to India and less than 1% of Canadian imports are from India. Vast opportunity to increase bilateral trade in existing commodities and exploring new tradeable items.
  • India’s share is only 0.5% of Canada’s FDI outflows, India is 30th largest investor in Canada, with a share of merely 0.03% in total FDI flow in Canada.Given the size of both the economies and the level of development, there is wide scope for increased two-way FDI flows. Financial services, power and ICT collectively represent 85% of Canadian investment in India.
  • Canadian and Indian businesses could offer complementary strengths in respect to joint venture projects. For example, India could offer management, IT support, ICT technology and specialized equipments, while Canadians could offer strong expertise in engineering, equipment technology and environmental science
