In today’s scenario, energy security is perceived as a quintessential element for any developing nation pursuing a challenging growth strategy. However, the current status of the power sector in India portrays a large scale of disparities across states, mainly due to the inability to meet the vast demand-supply gap and lags in the field of technological innovation. For India to emerge as a future economic powerhouse on the global firmament, adequate availability of energy to meet power shortages becomes indispensable. At present, the consumption of the non renewable sources of energy like Fossil fuels (coal, petroleum, and natural gas) has been extremely high. This has led to the depletion of the scarce non-renewable resources and necessitated the drive to look in the direction of renewables. On the other hand, there is an ongoing debate on the suitability of adopting a fossil fuel-led growth strategy, especially in the context of environmental concerns.

Why RuDiCON?
IMC strongly feels that switching to alternative sources of energy like solar energy, bio-gas, hydro power, wind energy and others, will unlock opportune possibilities for countries in the spheres of socio-economic growth, business development, rise of the entrepreneurial class, cost-effective technologies, amongst others. This will ensure an uninterrupted supply of quality energy access to every individual in the country at an affordable price, especially compared to the conventional fuels like kerosene, widely used by the poor. Thus, to promote the cause of renewables, IMC had initiated RuDiCON (Rural distributed clean power generation) in 2011. After a successful stint of two years, IMC is planning to organize RuDiCON 2013So far,RuDiCON had focused on the objective of electrifying 60,000 villages in India by means of distributed clean power generation and The Proposed Theme For This Year Is “Distributed Clean Energy: A Pathway to India's Green Economy”.

Focus of RuDiCON 2013 –

  • Extensive focus on the latest technologies, developments and leading clean energy solutions for clean power generation.
  • Issues pertaining to the funding of ventures in the field.
  • Some practical limitations of renewable energies.
  • Foster communication among energy stakeholders to share new insights and ideas on clean energy projects.
  • Subsidies for diesel, kerosene, and cooking gas in a cost-competitiveness framework.
  • Challenges in the adoption of new cost-effective technologies.
  • Infrastructural bottlenecks facing renewable energy projects.
  • Appropriate choice of alternative sources of energy for rural & urban sector needs and across states.

Even though the cost of generating power from renewable resources is high, the potential benefits are manifold. Thus RuDiCON will offer an unrivaled platform which will facilitate a win-win situation to ensure energy security, mitigate the impact of rising fossil-fuel cost on the economy and avert the negative implications of depleting natural resources.
