India is a large producer of several commodities and has a long history of commodity trading. There are different (global and domestic) drivers of the... commodity market which impact prices. By their very nature, commodity markets are volatile. Therefore, it is necessary to manage their price risks through hedging which is an insurance against adverse price movement. Commodity derivatives have also emerged as an investment vehicle.
