Event Description :

IMC’s Knowledge (Skill & Education) Committee jointly with Bombay Teachers’ Training College is organizing Talk on Neurons to Nations: How invest...ing in early childhood development builds healthy societies by Dr. Neil Boothby, Professor and Director, Global Center for the Development of the Whole Child, University of Notre Dame.

The lecture will address how healthy development in the early years provides the building blocks for educational achievement, economic productivity, responsible citizenship, lifelong health, strong communities, and successful parenting of the next generation. Particular attention will be paid to the effect of poverty on child development and educational outcomes, and how school readiness, or the child’s ability to use and profit from school, has been recognized as playing a unique role in escape from poverty. It is a critical element but needs to be supported by many other components of a poverty- alleviation strategy, such as improved opportunity structures and empowerment of families.
