Mr. Gaurang Shah will present the journey of discovering the Soul of Jamdani and Saris inspired by Shri Raja Ravi Verma Paintings.
Jamdani, one of the finest muslin textiles in the world is a discontinuous extra weft technique of weaving that takes no help from machinery. An Anthology of Jamdani – Presenting 30 timeless Jamdani masterpieces from different states/weaving techniques in a 6-yard canvas; Mr. Shah will showcase his unique creations by merging techniques to create outstanding texture and patterns.
As a tribute to two stalwarts of Indian history - Mahatma Gandhi, The Father of the Nation and Raja Ravi Varma, The Father of Modern Indian Art, Mr. Shah will interpret on recreating paintings of artist nonpareil Raja Ravi Varma on the canvas of Gandhi’s Khadi, not with a brush and paint but through intricate and complicated Jamdani hand-weave, the yarns dyed in over 600 shades of vegetable dye, presenting it as an evolving aesthetic expression of wearable art on the pallu of Sarees.

Mr. Gaurang Shah, Hyderabad based textile savant extraordinaire, has been traversing the country for the last 20 years, and invigorating the weaving traditions of India. His work spreads across 16 states, engaging 7000 weavers, craftspeople and others in ancillary trades in a perennial stable livelihood. Bringing forth relentlessly the creative and aesthetic ideas, his team – a consortium of artisans with extraordinary skills – weave the best of Indian textiles translating his designs with skill and techniques to create a diverse and timeless grand assemblage of Heritage Sarees. He successfully operates at the intersection of art, craft and design.
